Why put earth first?

Farming with Nature

While conventional agriculture has been the norm for years, regenerative agriculture offers a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly alternative that is distinct in its farming practices. Unlike conventional farming, which typically requires the use of artificial fertilisers and chemical herbicides and pesticides, regenerative farming focuses on building healthy soil, promoting biodiversity, and integrating livestock and crops in a way that supports a more natural ecological balance.

It sounds like paradise. And it is. However, shifting to regenerative farming, away from convention, is not without its challenges. The transition requires a commitment to changing the farming system while overcoming significant economic pressures. Growing food without the use of artificial fertilisers and chemical sprays is harder. Additionally, the soil must overcome its dependance on these artificial stimulants, which like any rehab, takes time. Despite the challenges, regenerative farming offers the promise of better productivity through improved soil biology and water carrying ability.

By supporting regenerative farming practices, we can make a positive impact on the environment, improve the health of the soil, and support local farmers who are committed to a more sustainable future. This is the purpose of Earth First.

We need to be farming with the capacity of nature
Greg Hart shares his vision of restoring paradise through regenerative agriculture in New Zealand. His farm is close to carbon neutral, has increased biodiversity, and optimises life, builds resilience and integrates animals. He stresses the importance of the food system in reversing global warming and restoring human health.
Soil health is complex, with physical, chemical, and biological aspects that affect fertility and ecosystem processes. Intensive agriculture and synthetic chemicals disrupt soil microbiomes, leading to degraded soil health and reduced food quality. Alternative practices like regenerative agriculture promote soil health and sustainable food production.
The Locavore lifestyle prioritises locally-sourced food because it is nutritious and delicious, and also because it supports farmers, sustainable agriculture, and community connections.
Regenerative agriculture is a holistic and sustainable farming approach that prioritises soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem resilience. It actively improves natural resources to benefit the environment and future generations.
